Aim of the module

  • To support clients that experience mood problems as well as anxiety problems;
  • To help motivate clients to do more fun and rewarding activities;
  • To help conquer anxiety problems through graded exposure exercises;
  • To help provide insight into the clients' unhelpful thinking, and give tools to start thinking in more helpful ways;
  • To help prevent relapse into mood and anxiety problems.

For whom is this module suitable?

The module is suitable for clients with mood problems, subclinical to clinical depression, anxiety problems and subclinical to clinical anxiety disorders like panic, social phobia and agoraphobia. Anxiety symptoms are found to be highly comorbid with depressive symptoms, which is why a combined treatment can be more effective for patients experiencing both.

What is the content of the module 'Mood & anxiety'?

The module has a CBT-based approach, treating mood and anxiety problems simultaneously. The module consists of 6 guided sessions and 3 unguided sessions. It also includes 4 (optional) diaries and an unguided ‘Welcome’ session. Relevant topics are discussed in each session, for example; thinking styles related to mood and anxiety, the importance of getting active, the importance of not avoiding anxiety and the vicious circle of anxiety.

In each session the patient receives information, watches psycho-educational doodle clips and practices with one or more exercises. The exercises focus on challenging negative thoughts, becoming more active, doing exposure exercises, and visualising a positive future.

What is the module based on?

The module is based on the knowledge and experience of an expert panel of therapists and patients as well as relevant literature. The Minddistrict team familiarises itself with cutting-edge research and the most recent evidence-based practices.

Which diaries work well with this module?

The Mood & Anxiety diary is designed to be used alongside this module. The module can also be combined with all generic diaries or with diaries that fit the goal of the client.

How do you use the module?

The module can be used for blended therapy, meaning face to face sessions are alternated with online sessions. The patient can access the treatment platform in his own time on any device, e.g. PC, laptop, tablet or phone. You, as the therapist, can monitor the patient’s progress through the sessions and diary entries and provide feedback once your patient has completed a session. The module is flexible in use. As a therapist, you can tailor the module to your patient’s individual needs: for instance, by making a session unguided or adding or removing (optional) sessions.
