Youth basic care: dealing with the emotions of your child

Emotions are useful and healthy, but they can also be overwhelming at times - especially for children. As a parent or guardian, you can teach your child how to deal with emotions and express them in an appropriate way. But how do you do that? How can you provide your child with emotional support?

Who is this module for?

This module is suitable for parents and educators who would like to learn how they can better deal with their child’s emotions. It provides information they can use to begin practicing skills for dealing with the child’s emotions.

What’s the content of this module?

In this module, the parent or guardian can receive psychoeducation on how to deal with emotions in children. The parent or guardian can learn what he or she can do to encourage the child to describe, recognise, express and process the emotion. In the exercise, the parent or guardian can apply these steps to a situation in which the child became emotional.

How can this module be used?

This personal route module is ‘mobile first’ and can be completed entirely in the app or on a desktop. The module can be used by general basic mental health care practitioners and assistant practitioners, either with or without feedback from an aid worker. If you choose to use the module without additional guidance, the submission moments will automatically serve as moments for reflection.

As certain basic topics are discussed in the online module, e-health can help create more room for in-depth discussion during face-to-face session.
