The Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) is a self-report questionnaire with 53 items that provides an overview of symptoms of psychopathology in adults/youngsters aged 13 and older.
Who is the questionnaire meant for?
The BSI was made for adults/youngsters aged 13 and older that have complaints that could point to a psychiatric disorder, such as anxiety, trauma, psychotic disorder and more. The symptoms can be both mental as physical.
What is the content of the BSI?
The BSI assesses the nature and severity of complaints across nine dimensions:
- Somatic complaints
- Cognitive problems
- Interpersonal sensitivity
- Depressive mood
- Anxiety
- Hostility
- Phobic anxiety
- Paranoid ideation
- Psychoticism
In addition, there are three scales: a general measure of psychopathology (general severity index), the number of symptoms present and the severity of the symptoms present.
